SJPP is proud to be a leader in renewable energy education in the Caribbean. All training courses are comprised of a combination of theoretical and practical learning, offering a high-quality educational experience that leaves graduates ready for the work force.

Course descriptions and prerequisites

Photovoltaic Installation 1:

This course is designed to provide participants with an overview of alternative and renewable energy in the global context.

Participants are introduced to the fundamentals of Solar Photovoltaic systems and gain hands-on experience in installing photovoltaic panels in a safe workplace environment.

In addition to obtaining certification from SJPP, participants have the option of certification in related National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) Units for Photovoltaic Installer Roofer/Fitter. This course also provides the base for higher studies in the field and graduates can find employment as entry level roofer/fitters within the industry.

Prerequisite:

  • Working as technicians in the Photovoltaic Industry for at least ONE year OR
  • SJPP Certificate or Diploma in Electrical Installations or its equivalent

Certification:

  • SJPP Unit Certificate in Photovoltaic Installations 1
  • Photovoltaic Roofer/Fitter NVQ Level 2

Solar Photovoltaic Electrical Installations 1:

This course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills required to make electrical connections, solar photovoltaic systems, supervise team members and communicate effectively with clients and the public in general.

Major areas of study include utility requirements for Interconnection and metering, common designs in solar photovoltaic systems, interpreting electrical and photovoltaic racking and panel placement schematics, data sheets and other design documents.

Participants are provided with opportunities to practice calculations related to energy storage, electrical grid systems and materials used in the installation process. They are also exposed to hands-on practice in working with electrical equipment and installing photovoltaic system electrical components in accordance with established standards.

In addition to obtaining certification from SJPP, participants have the option of certification in related National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) Units for Solar Photovoltaic Electrical Installer, Level 3.

This course also provides the base for higher studies in the field and graduates can find employment as solar photovoltaic electrical installers or entry level supervisors within the Industry.

Prerequisite:

  • Working as technicians in the Photovoltaic Industry for at least ONE year OR
  • Working as electricians in Industry for at least ONE year OR
  • SJPP Certificate or Diploma in Electrical Installations or its equivalent

Certification:

  • SJPP Unit Certificate in Photovoltaic Electrical Installations 1
  • Electrical Installer NVQ Level 3 (optional)

Energy Auditing 1:

This course is designed for a wide range of participants ranging from electrical and sales professionals working in the renewable energy sector to homeowners and real estate agents with an interest in energy conservation and energy advising to prospective clients respectively.

More specifically, this course should be an asset to photovoltaic Installation project managers, senior electrical installers and senior electrical technicians. Participants will be given the opportunity to plan and design photovoltaic electrical systems and also to plan and design a cost reduction or energy conservation programme for the generation of solar photovoltaic and wind energy.
